Do your brochures, Web pages, sales letters, catalogs, advertisements and other marketing copy sizzle? If not, here is a simple way to jazz up your copy: Create an experience for the reader.
Instead of telling the customer what they get when they make a purchase (e.g., describing the product’s features, listing contents, saying what tasks will be accomplished) show them how they will feel and what will happen as a result of their purchases. Help them to imagine how their lives will be better after they buy from you.
Before: “Learn basic sewing techniques, how to choose patterns and fabrics, measuring and cutting, and time-saving garment construction techniques.”
After: “Your friends will be dazzled by your new wardrobe! You’ll learn the simple and fast way to create beautiful dresses, blouses and more, even if you have never sewn before. Choose fabrics that are easy to sew and care for and patterns even a beginner can follow with ease. Discover simple shortcuts that will have you wearing your new outfit in no time!”
See the difference? Of course, all of your copy must be accurate. Make sure you deliver on your promises and provide the fantastic experience you describe. When you do, you will have all the business you can handle.
